first_imgUniversity of California-Riverside women’s basketball coach John Margaritis, accused by current and former players of verbal and emotional abuse over his 15 seasons, has quit as head coach without commenting on the charges, including from a Greek player,  Jessica Ogunnorin.She said he abused her in Greek in front of other players, said the Press-Enterprise in a report. He had been suspended earlier after a previous investigation into his conduct toward players who said he berated them constantly threatened to take away players’ scholarships, insulted them, berated assistant coaches and trainers and was hostile toward lesbian players.Ogunnorin, who was recruited from the American Community School in Athens, played in 2010 and said, “The whole benefit of going there was him speaking Greek,” Ogunnorin said. “It turned out to be the worst thing ever.”“He starts talking to her in Greek, and who knows what he’s saying then?” teammate Natasha Hadley said previously. “She tells us, ‘Basically, he just told me I’m not worth anything and I should go back to Greece.’” Ogunnorin said he was vicious. “He really likes to dig in and get personal,” she told the paper.TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img
