Ravichandran Ashwin has established himself as a reliable all-rounder and he proved his worth yet again with a solid half-century to help India pile up important runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Friday.Playing his 51st Test, Ashwin slammed his 11th fifty before he was clean bowled by Rangana Herath for 54 off 92 balls. In the process, Ashwin also completed 2000 runs in Test cricket and became the quickest to score 2000 runs and pick 275 wickets, surpassing Richard Hadlee who achieved the landmark in 58 matches.The Tamil Nadu tweaker also became the third quickest player to reach the double of 2000 runs and 200 wickets in Test cricket. Ian Botham, who had achieved the milestone in 42 Tests, was the fastest to the feat. Former India captain Kapil Dev and former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan were joint second fastest, doing it in 50 matches.He also became the fourth Indian after Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh to achieve the the feat.Ashwin joined Ajinkya Rahane in the middle after Cheteshwar Pujara (133) was dismissed early on the second day of the second Test. The duo was involved in a 63-run stand for the fifth wicket as India continued to dominate Sri Lanka at Colombo.India had won the first Test by 304 runs in the series opener at Galle and are on the verge of their eighth successive Test series victory.
