first_imgGreater Noida, Jun 8 (PTI) A day after police began a probe into the complaint against the Dadri lynch victims family for alleged cow slaughter and beef consumption, the groundswell opinion among Bishada villagers favoured a legal battle over street protests.Residents also contacted other villages in a bid to garner support for a mahapanchyat if an FIR was not lodged against the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched nine months ago following rumours that his family stored and ate beef at their house.”Other villages have been contacted and they have extended support to us. We will ensure that an FIR is lodged against Akhlaqs family. If in 20 days no FIR is lodged a maha panchyat will be held and the matter will be taken to streets,” said Sanjay Rana, father of one of the accused Vishal Rana. The members of the Muslim community living in Bishada village said there was no communal tension and their Hindu neighbours are protecting them.”However, we should put up our case before the court to prove innocence of those accused,” one of the villagers, Dharam Singh, said. Many of the other villagers echoed his views.”If court issues directions for lodging of FIR then police and state government will have no choice but to comply,” said Nirmal Singh. However, some called for a more aggressive stance.”State government was acting one-sided and supporting the accused. Unless we take offensive course FIR will not be lodged against Akhlaqs family,” said Surat Singh and others.advertisementSenior Prosecution Officer Daya Shankar Ram Tripathi said “Today, the application under section 156(3) for request to lodge FIR could not be moved due to some condolence meeting for which advocates were off work.”Authorities, meanwhile, described the situation in the village today as normal.”Situation in Bishada was normal and villagers are cooperating with the administration to prevent violence by anti-social elements,” SDM Dadri R K Singh said.
