These fires have taken hundreds of lives and resulted in damages amounting to $1 billion between 2011 and 2015.City Fire Chief Bill Forbush says following these safety tips will you help avoid heating fires this winter. “You should have your furnace serviced by a qualified service personnel. If you have a wood stove or a fire place you should also have your chimney cleaned whether you do it yourself or not — it needs to be cleaned or periodically checked through the winter season.”Always dial 911 to report all structure fires and injuries.
