International standard stadium for differently-abled to be set up in Meghalaya: Highlights and initiatives

first_imgThaawarchand Gehlot, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment announced on October 25, 2018, that an international standard stadium will be set up for the differently-abled people in Meghalaya.The minister announced the bout the initiative at the aids and assistive devices distribution camp for differently-abled people.The minister also announced that the central government will also set up a Composite Regional Centre in the Meghalaya. The cost of the construct of the stadium is estimated to be Rs 200 crore.Key pointsThe ministry aims to build a similar national sports stadium for differently-abled sportspersons in five different states across the country.The step was initiated after the state Chief Minister Conrad Sangma approached Gehlot with the idea and also assured of providing with a land of 50 acres for the stadium.The stadium is expected to be completed prior to the National Games 2022. Although the Detail Project report is not yet prepared. They will be prepared soon said the minister.Once space is available, the Social Justice Ministry will be setting up a composite regional centre in Meghalaya.Other major initiatives for differently-abled sportspersons by governmentA number of physical rehabilitation has been built across the country with the provision of medical treatment, counselling, aid and appliances.Rehabilitation has been set up by the government on educating vocational and on-hand training.Economic rehabilitation has been planned to be provided to the concerned people to endure a secured and dignified social life.last_img read more
