Odion Ighalo has been spotted at the Manchester United’s Carrington base for the first time after being “quarantined” amidst coronavirus fears. The 30-year-old had been kept apart from his new team-mates for two weeks after completing his loan move from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. United loanee Ighalo had been training alone in England while his team-mates were on a warm-weather training camp in Spain. He was pictured leaving the Lowry Hotel on Thursday, but he was sent off to a private facility with a personal trainer. Sources at the Manchester hotel have revealed his exclusion during the winter break was merely a precaution. And the veteran striker was chauffeured into Carrington training ground for the first time this morning. The Deadline Day loan signing will be available for Monday’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Earlier this week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed: “I never said he was gonna be ready to play on Monday, he’ll be involved with us and he will travel down with us. “Now he’s out of that two week period, precaution and just a precaution we made and let’s see if he’s involved or not. “We’ve kept in touch with him and of course we’ve done our own programme, he’s done his. “It was always gonna be a case of him having to integrate having been out in China and needs to get used to the players, and the team, up to speed as quick as he can, he’s been working really hard. “I think he is probably pinching himself at times at his favourite club at the age of 30 but he’s earned that one and hopefully he impresses us so we can see him play.” SunSport exclusively revealed that Ighalo plans to dedicate every goal he scores to his late sister Mary. Valencia and Barcelona are set to battle it out in a top of the table clash this evening at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium. Marcelino’s team have put together an eight-game winning run, which has seen them rise to be Barcelona’s nearest challenges at this stage of the season. They are just four points off the La Liga leaders, but Marcelino will have to watch today’s game from the Mestalla stands. He was handed a two-match touchline ban following his dismissal during his side’s 2-0 La Liga win at Espanyol last Sunday. This will be their biggest test of the season against Barca, who have won 11 of their 12 league games. Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is well aware of the significance of the game. “It’s a very important game for us because it could leave us seven points clear at the top of the table†he said.“I know [Valencia manager] Marcelino very well because I played under him at Villarreal. His teams like to play on the counter, make quick transitions and are always very strong in defence.“They play Marcelino’s favourite 4-4-2 system. It won’t be easy because it never is down there, and they’re playing some incredible football this year.â€Simone Zaza, Carlos Soler and Goncalo Guedes should all return for Valencia after they were rested in the win at Espanyol last Sunday but Jeison Murillo and Javi Jimenez remain on the sidelines.Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season last weekend against Leganes while Sergi Roberto, Andre Gomes, Rafinha and Javier Mascherano are all missing through injury.Lionel Messi, who signed a new contract yesterday, was rested against Juventus in midweek but will start.Valencia have won only two of their last 20 league games against Barcelona (losing 13 of those), and both were as visitors (3-2 in February 2014 and 2-1 in April 2016). However they have won eight consecutive games in La Liga, their best winning streak in the competition.Messi has had a hand in 26 of Barcelona’s last 33 goals against Valencia in La Liga (with 20 scored and six assisted).Santi Mina has already scored five league goals in his 12 appearances this season, having hit just six in his previous 29 league games. Mina, with two, is the only Valencia player to have netted more than one goal against Barca.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram

ANKARA Turkey (AP): Turkish 10,000-metre runner Elvan Abeylegesse could be stripped of silver medals from the world championships and Olympics after testing positive for steroids in a reanalysis of her doping samples. The Turkish Athletics Federation says Abeylegesse was among the 28 athletes whose doping samples came back positive in retroactive testing from the 2005 and 2007 World Championships. The federation said the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has asked the 32-year-old Ethiopian-born Abeylegesse to submit her defence concerning test samples from 2007, when she won silver in the 10,000 in Osaka, Japan. The IAAF announced Tuesday that 28 athletes had been caught in retests of their samples from the 2005 and 2007 worlds. The IAAF said it had provisionally suspended the athletes, who were not identified. Turkish newspaper Radikal said Abeylegesse’s sample tested positive for the steroid stanozolol. “I never used such a substance and never even thought about it,” Abeylegesse said. “I am experiencing deep disillusionment and sadness.” She said she was also asking the IAAF to retest samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she won silver in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres. If doping violations are confirmed, medals will be reallocated as necessary, the IAAF said. If Abeylegesse is stripped of the 2007 silver, US runner Kara Goucher would stand to be bumped up from bronze to silver. If Abeylegesse loses the Beijing Olympic medals, Shalane Flanagan of the US could be promoted to silver in the 10,000, and Ethiopia’s Meseret Defat moved up to silver in the 5,000. Zaman newspaper said the Turkish federation dropped Abeylegesse from the national team. It said she can ask for her backup ‘B’ sample to be tested but would be banned for two years if it also comes back positive.
For the Going The Extra Mile project, 2017 was a year of milestones and great successes, with volunteers from around the country banding together to make a difference in their communities. Take a look back at a few of the organisation’s achievements last year.“There are so many positive actions taking place and so much joy and happiness being spread,” says Camilo Ramada, co-founder of GEM with David Shields.Mathiba MolefeFor the Going The Extra Mile (GEM) project, 2017 started off well enough, with its volunteer community growing steadily as word spread of its work, but few could have guessed the scale of its success. In 2017, Going the Extra Mile touched the lives of more than 30,000 people, with about 4,000 of them being direct beneficiaries of the efforts of the many volunteers who gave up their time to work towards improving lives.Throughout the year the project listed more than 370 events in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, working with 45 non-government organisations. At more than an event a day, GEM offered almost everyone an opportunity to make a difference at some point during the year.“There are so many positive actions taking place and so much joy and happiness being spread,” says Camilo Ramada, co-founder of GEM with David Shields.“There’s a social activity for everyone on the GEM app and if you haven’t already, download GEM project & check it out for yourself.”Onwards and upwardsHaving raised the bar in 2017, GEM is gearing up to make similar strides in 2018 with the continued support of its volunteer and stakeholder community.“We’re definitely keen on going nationwide,” explains Ramada. “What we want to do is identify champions in the communities we haven’t reached yet and get them to help us spread our reach and build our network of non-profit organisations and volunteers.”Currently working in three of the country’s nine provinces, in 2018 GEM aims to offer people across the entire country an opportunity to work for the greater good while earning rewards either for themselves or the listed organisation of their choice.Getting as many South Africans actively involved in the improvement of society as possible remains key to building a country that all residents can proudly call home. This is a view shared by Brand South Africa and, through partnerships such as the one with GEM, it is definitely a possibility.“We hope that the nation will continue to contribute to positive change because a nation of people who care deeply for one another and the environment in which they live, is beneficial for everyone,” says Sithembile Ntombela, Brand South Africa’s general manager of marketing.Getting as many South Africans actively involved in the improvement of society as possible remains key to building a country that all residents can proudly call home.Get involvedRamada concludes: “South Africa is one of the best countries in the world, so why not get involved, why not work together to do good, feel good and be good?”To find out how you can volunteer for one of GEM’s projects, check out the GEM website and download the app or simply dial *120*GEM1# to get started.
